Hi,
We are a very small org working using sports to combat gutkha addiction among slum youth.
A lot of school and college mates settled out of India would like to donate sums like U.S. $ 100 or U.K. L 100.
Is FCRA neccessary for amounts as low as this too ?

It is not the quantum of money. As long as you are receiving money from a foreign source. You are covered under FCRA and you will need Registration or prior permission.
Martin Pinto
Yes FCRA registration will be needed if funds are received from any “Foreign Source”. In your case, if the individuals are not Indian nationals.

Dear All,
Greetings from Hyderabad!
In the query raised by Jamshed, I have the following to say:
1. The source of funds is the criteria to determine nature of funds and not the quantum of funds.
2. If all the friends of Jamshed are NRIs holding valid Indian passport, the remittance of funds will not require the FCRA registration since the source is Indian, irrespective of whether the funds are in Euros/Dollars/INR etc.
3. If the friends are not Indian citizens then definitely, FCRA will apply and the remittance of funds to Indian NGO will require FCRA registration.
Thanks and regards,

Dear Sir,
It is not possible to accept any foreign funding whether it is 100 $ or 10 $ or less than that without FCRA. The other option is that you could send this money to the organization having FCRA certification and that organization will fund the local NGO as desired by you.
Best regards
