Is it mandatory for non-FCRA NGOs also to register for DARPAN ID

I have a question, our organization Center for Communication and Change India is registered as Trust (NGO) and we do not have FCRA so far. Is it mandatory for non-FCRA NGOs also to registered on the DARPAN portal of NITI Aayog and get a valid unique ID with updated details to receive funds from CSR or local UN organizations?

I would appreciate your valuable advice.

  1. Professional Utlities says:

the term “NGO Darpan” refers to the NGO Darpan Portal, which is an initiative by the NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), Government of India. This portal facilitates the registration and profiling of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in India. NGOs can register on the NGO Darpan Portal to create and maintain their profiles, share details of their activities, and access government grants and benefits.

To register an NGO on the NGO Darpan Portal, organizations typically need to provide various details, including:

Registration Details: Information about the NGO’s registration, including the registration number and date.

PAN and TAN Details: Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) details.

Bank Details: Details of the NGO’s bank account.

Key Members Information: Details of key members, such as trustees, directors, and office bearers.

Contact Information: Address, email, and phone number details.

Activities and Objectives: Information about the NGO’s activities, objectives, and target beneficiaries.

It’s important to note that processes and requirements may evolve, and it’s advisable to visit the official NGO Darpan Portal or contact NITI Aayog for the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding the registration process for NGOs in India. Additionally, organizations may need to comply with the latest regulations and guidelines for NGO registration and reporting.

Niti Ayog has mandated Darpan ID for NGOS, but specifically, it is necessary for getting government grants.

    Mr Mehra,

Registration for Darpan in case of FCRA registered NGO is mandatory, without this registration, one cannot access a number of forms on FCRA portal, which an NGO is required to file from time to time.

In case of Non-FCRA NGO, like yourself, it is required, in case you apply for a government grant. Planning Dept which coordinates grants from central govt ministries, may not consider your application / request for grant from a central ministry without Darpan Id. But other than for these two requirements, as far as we are aware, an NGO may not be asked for Darpan Id.

However we feel it is better to have a registration at the Id, so that in case you are asked for such ID, you can always provide. It does not cost you much and once done it is not very difficult to maintain.

Registration on NGO Darpan is optional and NOT mandatory. But it is always advisable to register on NGO Darpan to help build trust & confidence in the minds of donors. It is free of cost. It is not necessarily for NGOs having FCRA account but Non FCRA NGOs are also welcome to register. This also helps in the visibility of the NGO in the minds of donors and community at large.

    Thanks & regards
